It’s natural for all of us to prefer the people who talk like we do and who dress like we do, just as it’s natural to be attracted to good-looking people more than average looking people. It’s just not Christ-like, that’s all.
He was holy which meant people weren’t attracted to him, and “he had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him” (Isa. 53:2). We would not have naturally wanted to go to church with Him, either.
Not only that, but the reverse was true, too. Not a one of us was attractive to him. That’s why He died for us, in our place, by way of a sin-bearing, wrath-appeasing, crucifixion.
When it comes to Christ-like love we are to love all who love Him with an incorruptible love, not a humanly corrupted love (Eph. 6:24). If you will obey Him and love all who love Him where you live then you will have to worship with them on Sunday and serve them with your spiritual gifts. Anything less isn’t love for them. It’s less than love. It’s worshipping only with those whom you like, and to make yourself and not Christ the center of your worship.
