The Cross, My Boast

“But may it never be that I would boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.”

For Paul, the cross was His present glory, treasure, and joy. It was also his reputation before man, and his mirror into which he looked to see the true image of self. This cross was with him every moment of every day, as “crucified” in this verse is perfect passive – past completed action, present results. Paul became, by the crucifixion of Christ – identified with everything that belongs to Christ.
